"A Place that's Rightly Proud of its Heritage"

Somers' gorgeous hamlet of Heritage Hills is a primarily residential area of Somers, with the convenience that all of Somers has to offer. It's 2.3 square miles of beautiful scenic land, dotted with woodland and farmland. It's a lot less to live here than Somers proper, as Heritage Hills costs generally $146,000, while Somers itself costs around $379,000.

That said, you're never too far from shopping centers like Baldwin Place (where you'll find stores like CVS, Learning Express (toys with an educational spin for children), Chili's Restaurant (which the whole family will enjoy) and a Super Stop & Shop for all your grocery-buying needs; there's also Somerstown Shopping Center which has a Chase bank and Strathmore Bagels and Somersfield Restaurant. Other restaurants include fun Italian eateries like Patsy's Pizza and Pasta, Il Forno Trattoria Brick Oven Pizza, Luce Seafood & Pasta. There's also Imperial Wok for your favorite Asian delights, a Subway, a Starbucks, a Tazza Cafe, Jesse's Deli, and an old-fashioned ice-cream and burger stand, King Kone, which is a bit out of town on Rt. 100, which you will pass on your way to nearby destinations like Yorktown Heights or Katonah.

As Somers itself is pretty rural, it's good to have your own car to get around. However, there are nearby train stations in places like Katonah, Purdys, Croton Falls and Goldens Bridge. Nearby roads include the Taconic Parkway and Interstate 684, which can take you to White Plains in less than an hour.

Somers if full of rich history and great parks in and around the area, like Reis park right in town, or Lasdon Arboretum and Sanctuary in Katonah. Both you and your kids will love a day at Muscoot Farm, also in Katonah, off of Rt. 100; it's a live working farm where you can visit the animals, and hike expansive acres of beautiful trails.

Heritage Hills is famous mostly for the Somers Pointe Golf Course, which has the Pinnacle restaurant on its premisis---you can eat and watch people golf right before you go back out for another round! There's 27 holes, so make sure you come fully prepared to spend the day here. It's a beautiful place that you won't soon forget.

Come to Somers for a visit and you might not want to leave. While the Elephant Hotel no longer has open vacancies, there is a wonderful museum there that you won't want to miss!

"A self-contained lifestyle"

Heritage Hills is a unique community located within the town of Somers, offering an almost entirely self-contained style of living. Condominiums are the only available type of housing. There are about 2,300 units, and 3,700 residents. Construction began in 1972, after the completion of Interstate 684 generated more interest in northern Westchester communities. There are EMTs on-site 24/7, probably a throwback to when the complex was for senior citizens only.

A private organization for residents, the Heritage Hills Society, helps members identify clubs and organizations to join. Drama and gardening are two of many possibilities. The property also has a fitness center and pool. An activity center has an art studio and provides a venue for drama productions; there is also a private library.

Heritage Hills makes amenities and activities easily available to its residents, but they still need to venture out sometimes. There are no stores or shops. Shuttle buses are available to take residents to area shopping centers. Somers Commons is the main area, with a large grocery store. There is a mall and a movie theater in nearby Jefferson Valley. Shuttle service is also available to take residents to the Metro-North train station in Croton Falls, another plus for residents who commute to the city.
Somers Pointe, a private golf club with 27 holes, is located on the Heritage Hills property. However residents who live outside the complex are eligible for membership.

The community does not have its own school. Children who live in Heritage Hills attend schools in the Somers School District, which is comprised of Primrose Elementary, Somers Intermediate School, Somers Middle School and Somers High School. There are 3,400 students in the district. The district is well-regarded because it provides its students with a quality education. Scores on state standardized assessments are usually excellent, with the majority of students scoring on or above grade level.

Heritage Hills residents have plenty to do within the confines of the complex, but its location in Somers is an added bonus, as the town has parks, restaurants and historic sites.

"Townhouses offering a simplified lifestyle...."

As the other reviewers before me have pointed out, Heritage Hills used to be a retirement community with age restrictions for residents. This is no longer true and so the 1-3 bedroom townhomes are open to all. The Heritage Hills option is open to buyers and renters.
This well laid out hamlet is a part of the Town of Somers and has access to the town facilities. Because of its original purpose, there are no schools within the hamlet. This does not have to dissuade people who want to live in Heritage Hills because Somers has well-established, highly-regarded schools.
One of the benefits of it having been planned for retirement living is that there any many recreational activities and clubs available to all residents. A nice golf course, tennis courts, billiards and pool tables, bocce ball courts and heated swimming pools are but some of the amenities that residents can use. There’s also a shuttle service to the Metro North station which really makes life easier when Heritage Hills folks want to take the train into Manhattan.
Heritage Hills is close to shopping and restaurants such as Stage Coach Café, Hana Japanese Restaurant and Sweet Delite Bakery. There is also the Pinnacle Restaurant with nice views. This place is sometimes rented out for private parties.
This hamlet offers the coziness of a well-laid out neighborhood with easily reachable shopping and dining. Given that there are 50 floor plans to choose from, there is something for a range of budgets. If you are interested in a Westchester lifestyle, but don’t want the hassle of renting or of mowing your lawn and shoveling snow, Heritage Hills can be a great fit.

"Luxury Living at Affordable Prices"

Heritage Hills is actually a serene self-contained former retirement community located in the beautiful town of Somers, NY. However, don't let fact that it was once a retirment village fool or dissuade you. The Hills are now open to people of all ages and walks of life and there is a slow and steady increase of younger folks moving in to the area and will most likely increase over the years, especially in light of the fact that condos here are lovely, diversely laid-out and move-in ready units which are far more affordable than most dwellings of the same quality and caliber in Westchester County.

Drawbacks of the area can be that the community doesn't have a school system and doesn't have kid-friendly attributes like playgrounds and such. However, that being said, there are still a mulitude of recreational actitivities for families as the actual Heritage Hills Village is chockfull of bocce ball courts, paddle tennis courts, regular tennis courts, swimming pools and whirlpools as well as lush landscape replete with tranquil woods, a lovely pond and hills and dales perfect for nature walks, frisbee or just tossing a ball around. For adults, there is a state of the art fitness center and a plethora, thirty plus, interesting social and cultural clubs including a drama and gardening club, as well as a private on premises library, a theatre and a woodworking shop. Also, it is a very safe, self-contained and tight-knit community where people know each other and look out for each other. This could prove to be a positive pull for young families in years to come.

The village offers a convenient shuttle service to the train station as well as a shuttle to nearby modest shopping areas.

The nearby Somers Point Golf Club is a popular local venue with its stunning 27-hole park-like golf course and signature eatery, the Pinnacle Restaurant, which boats an outdoor terrace for the warmer months that has beautiful views of the gold course as well as the verdant hills of northern Westchester.

The population of the greater area of Somers is just above 7,000 people and has a median household income of $103,691. The median condo cost at Heritage Hills is approximately $363,000.

Heritage Hills is predominantly white with the average age still being above the norm, though changing, at 65.

"Great choice for retirees"

Located within the town of Somers in Westchester County, Heritage Hills is a small hamlet of a little more than 2 square miles. The population of Heritage Hills is almost all white, but there are tiny percentages of African American, Asian, and Hispanic residents. Heritage Hills used to be a retirement community, but anyone can live there now, regardless of age. The homes here are condos, but they are available in dozens of different layouts and designs. You can choose to rent or buy. Heritage Hills also offers many appealing factors that make it such a nice place to live. There is shuttle service to the MetroNorth railroad station and to the area's shopping centers. There are different athletic facilities including bocce ball courts, swimming pools, tennis courts, and paddle tennis courts. There is a game room with a pool table, as well as a private library and fitness center. Heritage Hills also has a very nice golf course. In my opinion, the nicest thing about Heritage Hills is the strong sense of community; there are lots of clubs that residents can choose to participate in. Overall, I really like this area as it is somewhat like a resort. However, I do feel that it is a little nicer for retirees and couples without families as there are no schools in the hamlet itself.

"An evolved retirement community"

Heritage Hills has some great selling points. There's a large country club in the village which offers lots of amenities. There are five state of the art fitness centers, tennis courts, and golf courses. Most of the properties are condos due to the fact that Heritage Hills used to be a big retirement community. A younger generation seems to be trickling in but for the most part it's still an older demographic. The median age is about 65 years old. The good part about that is you can rest assured that the neighborhood is quiet and clean.

There's also not much infrastructure for families but I'm sure that will change in the future. There aren't any playgrounds and there's no childcare in town, although there are some close by in Somers. Also, and this may be a deal breaker for parents, there are no schools.

Traffic is practically nonexistent. Heritage Hills is pretty much limited to residents and there aren't many cars on the road. There also isn't much in the way of shopping so you'd have to go out of town for that as well.

There's a good range in price points for properties and if you don't have kids this could be a good match for you

  • Not very diverse
