"A small town just north of La Junta"

Cheraw is a small town of just 253 people. It lies east of Pueblo and just 15 minutes north of La Junta. This town is situated near a lot of water in the form of both lakes and rivers, and fishing and boating are popular with the residents. Over 27% of the males in this town work in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas exploration, while almost 35% of the female population works in health care and social assistance. The median household income here is $24,535 which is low compared to the state average of $55,430, but the home prices here are low as well. A median priced home goes for just $92,134, which is also well below the state average. However, almost 25% of the town's population are living below the poverty level.

This quiet little town is made up of a 73% white population, followed by 23% hispanic. For residents with children who are in school, the elementary and middle schools rate just below average, while the high school rates well above average for state testing standards.

Other than a small gas station/convenience store, there really isn't much in the town in the way of business. Residents must travel to La Junta or Pueblo for shopping and dining.

"Cheraw -- a little town along the Arkansas River valley in the plains"

Cheraw is a tiny town of about 200 people in Otero County. About 60 miles east of Pueblo, Cheraw lies along the fertile path of the Arkansas River as it flows east onto the plains. The town is surrounded by water, Cheraw Lake is the southern boundary of town, then Taylor Lake and Holbrook Reservoir are close by. The many lakes in the region offer great boating and fishing opportunities for residents and tourists.

There are homes for sale around town that go for as low as $50,000 and many homes for $100,000. The cost of living is very reasonable and shopping and specialty is available in Pueblo that is an affordable place compared to many regions in Colorado.

The town of La Junta and the La Junta Municipal Airport is south of town near the Arkansas River. The town of Rocky Ford is less than 10 miles away and a few other towns along the river's way. Once you get out of the river's path the land gets dry and barren. There is farming and cattle ranging in the area.
