"Battlement Mesa is as unique and cool as it sounds..."

Battlement Mesa is a small town near Parachute, Colorado along the western portion of Colorado I-70 corridor. The community sits to the south of the interstate about 30 miles east of Grand Junction, Colorado. There are about 5,000 people who call Battlement Mesa home and most of the community is subdivision neighborhoods established in the last few decades of last century.

The town of Parachute is the older community in the area, Battlement Mesa was created more recently and is named for the basalt topped mesa that sits south of town. The town is only 8 square miles and really caters to retirees and families. The average household income for this remote, beautiful area is only $36,000 a year so this is not an exclusive or overly wealthy place. There is a fine mix of people and lifestyles.

Grand Mesa National Forest is directly to the south of Battlement and Colorado National Monument is not far to the southwest. The town actually sits pretty much exactly between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction so there are lots of shopping options either way in town or in either city that is about 30 minutes away.

The community has really nice schools and a community center/gym. The area truly is lovely. There is a golf course and of course the Colorado River runs through.
Pros
  • close to Grand Junction & Glenwood Springs
  • great valley/mountains
  • outdoor recreation all around

"An outdoor enthusiasts ideal place to call home"

Battlement Mesa lies just east of Parachute, Colorado along I-70 in between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. The only real divider between these towns is the Colorado River and when many people talk about Parachute they are including Battlement Mesa and vice versa. The homes in Battlement Mesa are newer and as it sits on a plateau, many residents have a great view of the river. This area of Colorado is really beautiful and has a lot to offer outdoor sports enthusiasts. There's hiking, kayaking, fishing, nordic skiing, camping, hunting, golfing and more, all with the beautiful Rocky Mountains as a backdrop.

Battlement Mesa's population is 4,471 and the population of Parachute adds another 1,085. Both the median income level and the average median home price in Battlement Mesa are just slightly below the state of Colorado's average. The predominant race here is white, at about 80%. Many of the residents work in education, construction, and mining, quarrying, and oil and gas exploration.

The schools here rate just below average on state testing standards. There are more than a few restaurants in Parachute, but none that have a Battlement Mesa address.

Overall, this is a nice community with many like-minded people. With so many things to do just outside your front door, this town would be a great place to call home for anyone who loves the outdoors and being active.
