"The only thing Rocky about this neighborhood is the school"

Rocky Ridge is an area of single family homes, town homes, apartments and duplexes. The average home price here is from the low $100s to the mid $100s. Many of the homes in this neighborhood were built in the late 70s to early 80s and are two level houses. The neighborhood is pretty quiet considering two of the boundaries, Buckley Road and Mississippi Avenue, are such busy streets. While there isn't much shopping here, there are two grocery stores just outside of the neighborhood, one King Soopers and one Albertson's. There are also a couple of fast food restaurants across Buckley Road, but I can only think of a couple of sit down restaurants.

The only school which is located within the neighborhood is Iowa Elementary School. This school has for years gotten low test scores on state standardized tests and is in need of improvement. This isn't to say the teachers aren't doing what they can with the resources they have, but as with other elementary schools throughout the state, the classroom sizes are too big for one person to adequately handle. I heard there is a new principal as of a year or two ago, so with this new person it may be a very much needed turning point.

Overall, the neighborhood looks well tended and there are only one or two eye sores which I can recall from the last time I was here a couple months ago. It seems as if it would be a good area to raise a family for much less than many other areas (if you're able to find another school).
Pros
  • inexpensive housing
Cons
  • academically poor schools
