"Plattsville offers affordable living not far from Longmont"

Platteville is a small agrarian based town of 2500 people about 15 east of Longmont on HW 66. In town HW 66 and HW 85 meet just south of the boundaries of town. Fort Vasquez Museum is south on HW 85 and is an old fur trading post from the 1830's. It is an interesting little place and museum and there are indian and pioneer re-enactments periodically.

Just north outside of town is the Fort St. Vrain Generating Station, natural gas powered electricity facility operated by Xcel Energy. The facility was originally a nuclear power plant. There was also an old HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) facility near Plattsville in the 60's and 80's, an early experimental facility whose ionospheric manipulations have for the most part moved to more remote places such as Alaska.

The area is more affordable than into Longmont and certainly more affordable than Boulder. The average price for a home last year was $132,000. Even though when you look online at asking prices they range from $150,000 up to a million depending of course on the area and size of the lot.

The Platte river runs through town and the valley is a pretty place with nice mountain views to the west. Longmont is close enough to get to in 20 minutes or less and offers almost endless shopping and restaurant options.
