What parts of Harlem are "dangerous"?

I would like to make a map of what sections of Harlem are dangerous. Obviously any place can be dangerous in NYC if you're not smart, but there are always pockets of high crime areas which I think we should be specific about. For example, West 138th between 5th to FDR is pretty slummy and dangerous, but West 138th between 7-8th avenues is nice (Striver's Row).

Please give detailed areas of places to avoid, thanks.

The area around 125th street and the train station there is quite safe and nice, if not exactly charming. So around there you should be good, I think.

Last year my friend Mike and I photographed much of Harlem on foot lugging some pretty expensive camera gear starting at 125 street and heading deep into the neighborhood. We had a good time, met some cool people too - yeah, we looked out of place and drew some attention. Of course we were there on a Saturday or Sunday (can't remember which) during the morning/afternoon hours.
I really loved Harlem and would love to visit again.

East Side near the park can be pretty sketchy, even with all the efforts at community revitalization. A few years ago I was up there working on some public gardens, and it seemed like the area had a long way to go.

NYPD Crime map by Precinct: https://maps.nyc.gov/crime/ West Harlem is fairly safe. East Harlem is not. Avoid parks at night, obviously.
