trans fats - get rid of em, says Governor Paterson

If Governor Paterson is successful in banning trans fats from NYC restaurants, take a look at the fast food chains that will be affected:

Goodbye belly bombers and DQ!

Think they could substitute some other fat instead of the solid ones - or is this too much government intervention into everyday life?

Oh, God! This is ridiculous! Let people eat what they want and take responsibility for their own darn health. It's like the calorie postings at Starbucks - they absolutely ruin my day. Now, I eat healthily most of the time, enjoy a healthy Mediterranean diet, but now and again I want a brownie without the enormous YOU MUST FEEL GUILTY sign posted to the price tag. Granted, the number shouldn't make me feel more or less guilty - and yes, I should be an Informed Eater - but that doesn't mean it ain't a real killjoy!

I just wrote an e-book for a client, who happens to be a fitness and health expert. Based on research, trans-fat is deadly to the body over the long-term. It does cause obesity and heart disease. This is why the NY State Government decided to institute a law that all restaurants in NYC, and this was supposed to have included fast food places, had to stop creating food products in soybean and vegetable oils as they contain the highest trans-fats. Instead, these places had to go with other oils that had lower trans-fat.

I'm not a big fan of fast foods, and never was, but I agree that if they can change their menu to lower the amount of bad foods they use in creating the products they sell, they should be allowed to continue operating.

The economy is bad enough without having a ton of workers from fast food places laid off to.

Hasn't Governor Patterson recently advocated a tax on cigarettes and sugary drinks as well in his recent budget speech?.http://money.cnn.com/2010/01/19/news/economy/New_York_budget_deficit/index.htm?hpt=Sbin.
I think I quite like all the nutrition information that chain restaurants are now forced to provide it scares me into making the 'right' choice.
