Damaged Painting at the MMA to be Repaired

By now, I guess most people have heard about the incident at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. According to sources, a museum visitor somehow lost her footing and fell into a 6 foot painting of Pablo Picasso's "The Actor." The accident resulted in a six-inch tear in the lower right hand corner.

The painting should be repaired in time for an exhibition in April.

I can't see how any person can lose their footing in that place. The floors are smooth with no ridges. Someone I talked to about it, said they think she did it on purpose because she didn't like the painting.

I don't know about that. Has anyone seen the painting? What do you think is the reason for her losing her balance?

Being a former investigative reporter, I am being curious about it.

@hhusted somehow I dont think she did it on purpose who would want to damage an expensive piece of art? suppose if the Met had actually sued her? Maybe she got dizzy or is what a I call a 'swinger' i.e. a clumsy clod who does manage to knock over things. Believe me, hhusted such people do exist -one of my closest friends is a walking disaster who is forever creating havoc because she is often too busy talking to pay attention to her surroundings.

She'd have to really really not liked the painting, then. Seems pretty implausible she'd FAKE a fainting spell don't you think?

Agreed - it's odd, but not THAT odd. Poor woman must have been more humiliated and terrified than anything. Does she have to pay damages or anything like that? What a nightmare - if I'd accidentally destroyed a priceless piece of art, I'd be freaking out...and with my clumsiness track record, it's far from unlikely

I know I'd feel like a jackass if I elbowed a world-class piece of art...
