The Condo V/S the Dogs

Co-op boards in NYC are reputed to be notoriously sticky and exacting about whom they let in into the fold. Condo boards are often thought to be more lenient, now a Condo board on NYC's Upper West Side is trying to limit the number and the kind of dogs, owners have. New Yorker's real estate market has still not recovered from the recession and to have rules like this is silly isn't it? or is the board justified in passing these rules considering many apartment buildings in NYC don't allow pets at all ?

That's unfortunate! I love dogs, and would be overjoyed if I could have one of my own (my rather itinerant lifestyle makes it impossible). I understand the rules in rentals, but for a co-op, I'd say it's going way too far! Although I'm opposed to snooty co-op boards on principle!

@ajadedidealist its not a co-op board but a condo board that is imposing the no pooch rule.

I am not a dog lover, and I do agree that some dogs don't belong in apartment buildings because of size. But I don't think a co-op should have the right to enforce such laws on the owner of the property. At that rate, why buy a co-op. Just rent. You have basically the same rules and less expenses.

@Uraniumfish Condo boards are reputed to be not as picky as Co-op boards that's why this ruling seems a bit out of character.

Sorry guys - my brain totally flipped out when reading the original post! That *is* surprising, in retrospect. I've so rarely heard of condos having stringent entry standards the same way co-ops do...
