New York City Needs Your Help

NYC- home to country's best financial brains now asks for help on how to save money. The city fathers have now added a suggestion box to
the city's nyc.gov.website which asks people to submit tips on how City Hall can be more efficient. We on this forum could probably contribute a lot.. so lets get the ball rolling shall we?

Wow! I actually intend to submit my two cents by the end of the week. Since they asked, and I just happen to have so very many opinions...

@Uraniumfish Wonder if they will even listen to any of us, sure they have asked for our opinions but are they ready to mend their money wasting ways?

Good question. I'm not idealistic enough to hope for the best, but I'll still dutifully put in my two cents.

@Uraniumfish I guess my first suggestion would be that the city should fix the MTA as soon as possible.

@Uraniumfish just came across this - I guess Pension reform should also be added to the list- apparently NYers pay a lot for public sector employee pensions than the rest of the nation.

Your tax money at work, folks. It'snot that I mind being taxed in order to create public programs that benefit everyone, it's just that my tax dollars are just so woefully misspent!

@Uraniumfish: I asked someone recently about that system the government is setting up where you tell them how to save money. According to my friend, he said the government will read your comments. If they find, after reading over them that your suggestion has merit, they will call in an auditor or someone to evaluate your comment further to see what actual costs savings there would be.

If the cost savings are under $100, forget about it, but anything above $100 will be considered. And the key word is considered. Not put in motion, just considered. At least this system will show the government whether this city actually cares about what happens to it.

Word, @Uraniumfish! It's a pity that money can be so dreadfully mismanaged...sometimes when I look at the disparity between our war spending and our education, health care, etc., spending I just get so depressed.

@Uraniumfish and Ajadedidealist: Government has been wasting money for years. That's nothing new. So I am not surprised by these developments.
