Bars for Live Music in New York City

Another one of those lists that will grow over time, this is a first stab at the bars that have unique musical offerings, at least the ones that come to mind now.

1. Paddy Reilly's Music Bar
Irish music
519 Second Avenue at East 29th Street
Known as an incubator of the finest Irish music talent on the East Coast, this smallish bar has several other eccentricities, including the fact that the only beer on tap is Guinness. Shows start around 10:30, seven days a week.
2. Freddy's Bar and Back Room (Park Slope)
Opera on Tap (2nd Thursday of each month)
485 Dean Street
This small dive bar also offers Jazz from the NYC underground every 4th Tuesday of the month.

I'm not into bars, but I like Fat Cat Billiards, since I like the sport. I used to be billiard champion on my block when I was younger. Haven't played it in years.

Barbés
376 9th Street, Brooklyn, NY - (718) 965-9177

Chicha Libre is a Brooklyn-based band that plays a mix of latin rhythms, surf music and psychedelic pop inspired by Peruvian music from the Amazon and they play here every Monday.

The calendar at Barbés is vast and varied, and anyone into or interested in exploring world music should check it out: http://www.barbesbrooklyn.com/calendar.html

There was a bar/restaurant somewhere near W 110th Street in Morningside Heights in which people would give live recitals of arias from famous operas. Know which one I mean? Is that still around?
