Relocating for job at UCLA. Need assistance with finding right neighborhoods.

I'll be relocating to LA for job at UCLA this summer. Suggestions as to where to live that is 1)safe 2) reasonably priced rental 3)commute won't be too awful?

I've looked around, but am at a loss. Right around campus (Westwood) is rather expensive. I have no other preferences than above. I can adjust otherwise. Except maybe space/size... I can't live in a studio.
