Pros and cons of living downtown L.A. versus Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Studio City or Mid City West?

If I work downtown, would you recommend living downtown or in one of these other areas. I like walkable areas with some boutiques, shopping, local stores. Am also into fitness, mostly good clubs or complexes with workout facilities and pools. We're a working couple in our early 50's and would be moving from Seattle, but have also lived in NYC and Bay area so are not a stranger to cities.
