"Hastings Homes & Real Estate"

Hastings City is located in Minnesota, near the spot where St. Croix and the Mississippi Rivers converge. As of latest count, the city’s population is at a little over 22,000. A big portion of the land mass of Hastings can be found in Dakota County while the rest extends into Washington County. Hastings City was named after Henry Hastings Sibley, the very first governor of Minnesota.
Early on, Hastings developed fast because of its unique location with an accessible riverboat port and it is very near the Vermillion River which is a hydropower resource. Other areas near the river are either too mountainous or marshy. Three main roads provide access to Hastings: Minnesota State Highways 316 and 55, and US Route 61.
Back in 1857, Hastings was elected as the county seat of Dakota. The city’s name is attached to two major railroads in Minnesota, the Stillwater and Hastings Railway and the Hastings and Dakota Railway. The northern boundaries of Hastings are mostly portions of the Mississippi River while the Vermillion River is on the southern portion of the town. The city has some of the most exciting natural attractions in the country and this includes a gorge that surrounds the Vermillion Lake just below a falls, bluffs along the northern shores of the Mississippi River, two lakes named Lake Isabel and Lake Rebecca which both drain onto the Mississippi River, and lots of marshlands.
Other interesting spots in Hastings are the West Second Residential Historic District which boasts of thirteen architecturally important structures built in the mid 19th century, the Vermillion Falls Park, the Ramsey Mill Ruins which was built on the Vermillion River and includes a storage facility and a copper store, Lock and Dam No. 2, LeDuc Historic Estate, Alexis Bailly Vineyard, and the East Second Street Commercial Historic District which has thirty five commercial buildings all erected in the 19th century.
The Hastings School District is considered as one of the largest in the Tw3in Cities Metro Area. There are three elementary schools: Pinecrest Elementary, McAuliffe Elementary, and Kennedy Elementary. There is also Hastings High School and the award-winning Hastings Middle School. There are special education programs for students with special needs as well as a wide array of services for all ages up to senior citizens.
For recreation, there are a lot of places your family can go to starting with the Spring Lake Park which offers amazing outdoor opportunities such as cross country skiing and hiking. The Park has the amazing Schaar’s Bluff Picnic Area. There are more trails at the nearby Afton State Park and great bike trails overlooking the St. Croix River.
