Financial District, New York City crime - do the locals think there is alot of crime in the neighborhood?

There's not a lot of crime in the Financial District but it is really dead at night which makes crime easier to commit. Most of the buildings are high rises so breaking and entering aren't a problem. The high rises generally have doormen or secured entrances. It's just walking late at night that isn't advisable.
