The family-friendly city of Farmington is about 30 minutes south of the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport on the Vermillion River. With nearly 900 acres of park land, more than 45 miles of trails and annual events that include Summerfest, the Dakota County Fair, the Dew Run and a golf tournament, there is abound to be something for everyone.

Farmington is situated in roughly 25 miles from Eden Prairie in Dakota County, Minnesota. There are two major airports servicing this town: STP or the St. Paul Downtown Airport and the MSP or Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport. Farmington is one of the most ideal places to live in Minnesota. The place is filled with a lot of activities. For those who love golf, you can break your tee on these places: the Fountain Valley Golf Club, Brockway Golf Course, Crystal lakes Golf Club, Rich Valley Golf Club, and the Southern Hills Golf Course.
Situated along the St. Croix River is the ski resort Afton Alps. Your family will have their day in more than 300 miles of pure snow fun in this wonderful family resort. If you are not aware, the cost of living in Farmington is way higher than the average cost of living in the entire country which means there are a lot of things good in this place.
In terms of education, the average expenditures on students in public schools in Farmington run at more than $4500 per student. The place has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. Two years ago, Farmington was awarded as the number one Best US City for seniors. It also rated first in America’s Most Playful Cities as well as the Safest City for Families with Young Children.
For history buffs, you can find the Dakota City Heritage Village in Farmington. It is a circa 1900 museum and village that include 22 buildings that connect visitors to the life in this state one hundred years in the past. The place holds more than ten thousand artifacts showcasing the life and history of the people who first lived in this area. Aside from the Heritage Village, other interesting spots in Farmington are the Dakota County Fairgrounds, Rambling River Park, Northview Park, Pine Knoll Park, and the Dodd Trail Park. Other equally fascinating attractions near Farmington include Fort Snelling Park, a Minnesota state park at the junction of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers. It is noteworthy to know that Fort Snelling was built back in 1820 and it is visited by an average of 400,000 people yearly. The Fort offers exciting activities such as 29 kilometers of skiing trails, and 29 kilometers of hiking trails all managed by the Minnesota Historical Society. In Bloomington, about 15 miles from Farmington, is where you can find the Nickelodeon Universe which was formerly known as Knott’s Camp Snoopy. Kids who love the show will truly enjoy a trip to this wonderfully fun camp. Also in the same city is where you can find the second largest enclosed mall in the country, the Mall of America.
