"Who knew there were apartments here?"

Most Nashvillians think of Downtown as a place to work or run errands—or a place to avoid because of the traffic and tourists. Who knew it could be a place to live, as well?

Turns out there are some great luxury apartment buildings in this area. I’m not usually keen on urban living, but some of these I could probably tolerate for a year or two. They’re near Riverfront Park, they’re convenient to all sorts of great restaurants and attractions, and some of them are within easy walking distance of the Downtown Library.

Drawbacks? Well, the traffic, the tourists, and the old narrow streets all combine to make this a place you don’t want to drive. And since it is a tourist area—and an area where most of the government offices are located, to boot—prices are outrageous. And, of course, you need to look into flood insurance if you live downtown (or own a building there, for that matter).

In May of this year, Nashville experienced the worst flood the area had seen in nearly 100 years. We’re talking “rescue people off their roofs, if there’s a roof left.” Downtown Nashville was hit pretty hard, especially First and Second Avenues. A whole lot of people spent a whole lot of money in a hurry to make things presentable for the tourists again—and to make things livable for the rest of us.

Now, four months later, you can’t tell there was a problem unless you know where to look. But—flood insurance. And use public transit whenever possible.

Music City Central, the city’s new, state-of-the-art bus station, is located in this area. All routes except a couple of connectors run through Music City Central.

"Wonderful vibrant place"

There is plenty good to say about downtown Nashville. Driving down Broadway, you can't help but get excited about all of the lights and action, much of it surrounding live country music. Or catch a game or concert at Bridgestone Arena. Or eat at one of the wonderful restaurants including Hard Rock, Joe's Crab Shack, Big River Grill, or the Palm. Get a drink or snack at the Hilton Hotel before going to a show at the Ryman. Or go to Symphony Hall, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Wildhorse Saloon, a Titans game at LP Field, the Tennessee State Museum, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, or the beautiful downtown library. The list goes on and on.

Modern condos have sprung up like wildfire around town. They are techy and wonderful and all offer a beautiful view of the skyline. Downtown is also close to East Nashville and Vanderbilt and all the fun things to do in those areas.

"Great for Tourists and Attractions."

Located in Downtown, Nashville there are a number of various restaurants that you will want to check out. The hotspots of Downtown Nashville include Cadillac Jacks and The Wildhorse Saloon. A popular hangout that draws a number of tourists each year is the Coyote Ugly Saloon which is famous for being a movie as well as the dancing bartenders who grace the bar each day. The women are the only ones allowed on the bar and therefore if your a guy, you will want to simply be there to see the legs of the women hopping up on the bar.

In downtown Nashville, you will want to check out the Hard Rock Cafe as well as Joes Crab shack. The vast amount of restaurants are well worth the visit into Downtown. When looking to rent a condo in downtown Nashville, the area is always busy and you will want to be prepared for the noise that comes with living in the downtown Nashville. The Downtown area is home to the Bridgestone Arena where you can visit the hockey team or catch a concert on your nights off.

Not to far from the action of downtown is the library where you can get yourself a book and enjoy the quietness of the city as well as watching the children play in the water spraying out in front during the warmer months of the year. If you are not familiar with the area, catch the Metro bus and go back to the bus station to get a bus to other areas of Nashville.
