"A Playground for the Locals"

Downtown Culver City was not really a destination when I was young, but times have changed. It is now a real playground for Yuppies and the well healed. Here’s a bit of a run down of what you can expect to find.

Beyond the usual city offices that you might expect in any city—City Hall, Police Station, Fire Station etc.—Downtown has because a bustling arts and consumer Mecca. In terms of food for example, you can choose from your typical American faire to any number of international cuisines, such as Greek, French or Italian. If you just want to try out some spirits, there’s a pair of very solid wine bars and gastro pub, where as if you would rather fight off the summer heat with some ice cream, there’s Cold Stone here too.

If you are looking to take in a play, there are two companies in the immediate vicinity. If you want a movie, there’s a twelve plex. There are also art galleries, Yoga and martial arts studios, and day spas as well.

You can also find unique clothing and furniture stores as well as antique and thrift stores.

On Tuesdays there is a farmer’s market and during the summer they have a “block party,” when the local restaurants offer up free samples off their menus. For those who like to be in the center of the action, there are also a pair of hotels that serve the city.

Downtown, however, is definitely not the place to live. Too much traffic makes it a little bit of a challenge walking around. But living close to it should be enough for most.
