"A place for the wealthy and famous"

Cherry Hills has long been known as the place where money resides. This quiet community lies just south of East Hampden and west of I-25 in an area known for grandiose homes where the wealthy and famous live. Many of the areas are only accessible by going through gates which are guarded, in an effort to keep out would be lookie-lous and those who aren't residents or their guests. While it may seem stuffy to outsiders, I have spent some time here and feel the opposite. If you like living in the city and can afford to live here it's a great community. The homes are all luxurious with manicured lawns and gardens and considering it's location it is peaceful and serene. Yes, your neighbors are probably going to be MLB players or even CEOs, but that comes with the territory. After all, they have to live somewhere.

Within the boundaries lies the Cherry Hills Country Club which is home to a private 18 hole golf course. This course has many gorgeous trees and a good sized lake with some pretty great views.

Traffic in this area can be pretty rough along Hampden Avenue which can get backed up during peak driving times. Although there are other big streets that go through here, Hampden is the worst. The residents I know take the time to drive out to Belleview Avenue to catch the highway when it is busy and this is much faster. Once on the highway it is a straight shot to Denver for those who commute.

There is definitely shopping in the area, although mostly grocery stores and smaller shops. The nearest mall is Park Meadows which is just south down I-25.

Although there are public schools here the majority of the residents with children send them to private schools, and there are numerous private schools in the area. Kent Denver School has Madeline Albright as alumni as well as several professional PGA players. J.K. Mullen High School has produced many professional athletes in both football and baseball, while St. Mary's Academy taught Condoleezza Rice, who later studied under Madeline Albright's father.

Overall, for anyone who can afford the high price tag, I would recommend this neighborhood for the gorgeous homes, great landscaping, notable neighbors, and incredible safety in the city.

"The Cherry Hills have very expensive fruit"

Cherry Hills Village is a Denver suburb seperate but close to the larger Denver suburb known simply as Cherry Creek. It is just easy of Englewood and west of I-25 and Cherry Creek. Cherry Hills is known as one of the most affluent areas in Colorado and in the entire country. The 2000 census showed that 96% of the population was white with less than 2% Latino which is a very low number for many parts of Colorado. The median income per household was an astounding $230,000+. You had better have a pretty penny and be determined to live the highlife to fit into these neighborhoods. Yes, the homes are extravagant and many of the streets are gorgeous but of the cost you could have a huge property in the mountains with a river and a private golf course. I guess it depends on if you are rich and love the city.

The Cherry Hills Country Club is renown and hosted two PGA Championships, supposedly the classic Arnold Palmer iced tea and lemonade drink was named at the country club.

Cherry Hills is part of the Cherry Creek school district and the district has a very strong record of excellence. There are also numerous prestigious private schools. St. Mary's Academy is an all girls high school where Condoleezza Rice attended.
Pros
  • golf
  • close to Denver airport
  • close to downtown Denver
Cons
  • too expensive
  • right along interstates
  • not down to earth
