Favorite Sports Bars?

What are your favorite places in the Bay Area to enjoy a beer and watch [insert sport of choice here]?

I tried to meet a friend in the Santa Clara/Sunnyvale area a few nights ago to catch up, and neither of us knew the area too well so we Yelped a couple of spots. Well, after failed attempt #2, we settled on Mountain View, which is a bit of a haul for her (she comes from San Jose), but has plenty of places.

FYI - I don't like watching sports that much - I just like the atmosphere.

What are some of your favorite spots in different areas?

Green's in Russian Hill definately has that classic sports bar feel. When you are inside you feel as if you could be in Phily or New York. You know pictures on the wall, nice tables, a long bar. The whole bit.

Green's Sports Bar on Polk St is my favorite Sports bar. I like going there for Super Bowl. I also like Giordano Brothers for sports games. They have a lot of TVs.

This is both a little off topic and outside of the geographical reach of the original question, but a nice family friendly place to have lunch and watch the game way out in Walnut Creek is McCovey's (McCovey was a player for the Giants?) It has lots of TV's all over the dining area and really good service. There is a 44 on the ceiling---McCovey's number as a player. The dining area is shaped like a baseball diamond with bases at the appropriate spots. We used to go there on Sundays so I could keep half an eye on the games while we ate.

Hehe, nothing wrong with going off topic. Happens all the time here. That actually sounds pretty cool - I haven't checked out Walnut Creek yet and I hear that it is a great place for young people.

I don't know if I would go that far--its a pretty stand suburban area--has an okay downtown area with a few places like I mentioned, but unless you are in the area already, it is definately not worth a trip on its own merit.
