"East 55th Street"
On this street for good eats, go to Shun Lee Palace East or Our Place II for some authenic Chinese fare. For shopping, try Belgian Shoes for some hand made couture and classic looks (these would be a wonderful gift for a woman who likes being a bit unique). For nightlife, try Azza. It's very swanky, drinks are expensive, but you're paying for company and ambiance.
For housing, try another street. I did not think the buildings on this street looked nice enough to live and was generally underwhelmed in that respect, but the street was busy and filled with people.
East 55th Street is close to several metro stations and is close to many buses. Foot traffic is heavy and I recommend the street to EVERYONE!
