I've been living in my apartment on East Village for 5 years now and new neighbors have moved in next door to me about 4 weeks ago. They are a young bunch of guys who are quite noisy coming in at all hours of the night. I tell them keep it down politely, and they do until the next weekend when they stumble home drunk. What can I do!?!? Has anyone else had any luck with this kind of thing?

It's a tricky situation. If you call the authorities this time, any future problems anyone has with them, they will assume it was you. If the guys are a little crazy I wouldn't go near them.

unfortunately that doesn't help me much peterkota. I don't think they are crazy as such, just disrespectful. Not looking forward to this weekend.

The most evil thing you could is bribe the super to get a master key to the maintenance room or place where the fuses are. If those guys make too much noise go there and flick of their power! Assuming you mean they have their music on too loud, not just make too much noise by talking.

I have the same problem with a neighbor who has his music on too loud that shakes my entire room.
Isn't there a law against this? He says that he lived there 15 years, and that's his point. He uses that as his defense. What legal action can I take?

thanks for the kind replies everyone.

@Brian you are evil!! But it's more the noise they make more than anything. I had a good chat with the super and he had a word with them and said that they would have to leave unless they kept it down. As it turns out I was not the only one who complained. I think the problem appears to have been solved in the short term, but im afraid the time will come when we have to vote to kick them out, which i will have no troubles doing.

@ptlattamen try and talking to your super, mine is actually a really nice guy. You might be surprised to find out that other people in your building have complained as well, and that will make it a lot easier for your super to make the decision to kick them out\tell them off.
