By day Johnston St is a busy traffic route and best avoided, but at night it's a great place to eat, with many Thai and Indian eateries, a Czech and Slovak restaurant, Italian, kebabs and a couple of bars and pubs.

This street is on the south end of North Fitzroy so you are as likely to visit places further south on Brunswick St in Fitzroy as you are to go north for everything that is available in North Fitzroy. The street is wide with lots of parking and can be noisy because of the Brunswick St traffic and trams and the pub on the corner (about to close or be renovated I believe). The excellent $10 steak night may be a thing of the past soon but hopefully a new venue will liven up the street. Great for busy people who may not mind a bit of noise.

Cecil St has a new IGA mini supermarket on the corner of Brunswick St, it has the Fitzroy swimming pool and at the east end is the back of Officeworks. In between is a variety of medium to high density warehouse converstion apartment buildings and original terrace houses.

A lot of the bars and restaurants are changing, redecorating, or closing down. Rents are apparently rising. The bar with no name is now called Libation, a very swish new place called St Jude's cellars has opened, new places are about to open next to Polly, and some of the shops that have been around for years are closing. There's also a new IGA supermarket on the corner of Cecil St

Gertrude St is becoming a fashion precinct and also an entertainment area along with nearby Smith St (at least the eastern end of Gertrude St). The western end is mostly shabby and full of the hopeless and homeless. It's also a major street for art galleries in Fitzroy and has its own projection festival - see http://www.thegertrudeassociation.com/.

I recently stayed at Acacia terraces on this street and found it very quiet and relaxing. It's a great place for travellers to stay in Echuca - http://www.wotif.com/hotels/acacia-terraces.html

This is a wide quiet street on the western edge of North Perth off Walcott St. There's a few shops including a chemist and a great breakfast and lunch cafe called Blake's that has excellent coffee. They also do dinner on Saturday nights with live jazz and middle eastern style food.

This is a great inner city Perth st close to lots of cafes and social events and public transport. On the corner with Fitzgerald St is the Rosemount hotel, one of the best pubs in the inner city, and the street also has Milkd cafe and Pal and Panther - a bicycle and motorcycle sales and repair shop where they know everything about everything on two wheels.

Bustling country town main st filled with cafes, pubs and shops. The place to have breakfast in Echuca.

This road connects Beechworth and Chiltern. If you're heading south from Rutherglen the turnoff to Beechworth in the middle of Chiltern is not signed very well and I missed it the first time. This is one of the narrower country roads in this area and the cyclists we saw on the road (with unsealed edges) seemed to be preparing for reincarnation at any moment. With some very twisty parts this road is fun to drive in sunshine but could be tricky at night and when wet.

Having last visited the north of Victoria in summer I was surprised at how green everything is in winter although all the grape growers are talking about the disastrous drought. This is the road you take to travel between Beechworth and Yackandandah or Wodonga. There's not much to see.

If you're coming to Yackandandah from Beechworth you take this road through green farmland (in winter at least) and arrive in the tiny main street of Yackandandah, where there are some shops, cafes and bakeries which look quite lively at lunch time.

This is Ford St - the main street of Beechworth - where many of the cafes, restaurants and shops are located. Wardens and Gigi's are both stylish bistro restaurants with city attitudes and prices but lots of local falvour and produce and wines from nearby wineries. As it moves out of town to the west the road takes you through picturesque countryside towards Wangaratta.

As you pass through Upper Everton stop in at Amulet winery where you can try their excellent wines including a wonderfully dark Merlot Cabernet and also their dryish orange muscat chardonnay.

Camp St is one of the longer streets in the small town of Beechworth. I stayed in a motel there which was daggy but comfortable and a short walk down to Ford St, the town's main street, where most of the cafes, restaurants and hotels / pubs are.

Camp St also has several accommodation providers and places to eat. It was quiet and calm but there's no Vodafone reception in Beechworth so it may be quieter than you want it to be.

This road takes you to the carpark for the river mouth beach, where there is great swimming if you like robust waves close to shore, and amazing surfing further out on the break. Although swimming it technically banned it is a popular place for swimmers and body / boogie boarders. It's not for weak swimmers though!

Murial is a small cul de sac. Parking can be tight as some of the old houses have no driveways. I used to have very friendly neighbours here. A lovely little street.

We are all huge fans of the incredibly popular TV show LOST at StreetAdvisor HQ, and we couldn't contain our excitement when a regular StreetAdvisor contributor sent us some photos from the actual set of LOST! Yes... the actual beach set.

And so we thought it fitting to show everyone (because everyone loves LOST!) the actual location of the beach set, where Oceanic Flight 815 crashed, where The Dharma Initiative was wiped out by Ben and where Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Sun, Jin and Sayid have been chilling out awaiting rescue. In the pics are Sawyer's tent when he and Kate got ‘personal’, Mr Eco's unfinished Church and the campsite where Hurley continues to grow both emotionally and physically.

Visiting Bronte is a treat, from walking by the beach, to having breakfast at Swell, to continuing along the cliffs and walking through the serene cemetary. One of the most beautiful places in Sydney.

Westgarth st connects locals from Nicholson St past Brunswick St and on to Smith St as it is a rare two-way st. Despite this traffic is not impossible. The grrovy Retro cafe is one one corner with Brunswick St and on another corner is the excellent little Italian butcher called Largo. Westgarth has a combination of terrace houses, free standing houses, blocks of flats and warehouse conversions.

Carnarvon st is close to buses and the train line and it only takes 15 minutes to get into the CBD. Park, swimming pool and shops are all walking distance away. Traffic is not a problem and the area is becoming more gentrified.

the best reason to visit this lane is to eat at Camy Shanghai Dumpoling restaurant - a legend of Chinatown! Also the Gaylord Indian restaurant is pretty good.

The shopping and entertainment strip from south of Wattletree Rd north to High St is great - a diverse collection of shops and cafes including the very enjoyable Paprika Hussar Hungarian restaurant. It's not as frantic as the Kew section of Glenferie Rd further north and that's a good thing.

This street has art deco flats as well as some cafes and restaurants. . The Bohemian Beer Cafe is a favourite of mine!

Seriously exclusive and expensive terraces fill this street, as well as some well maintained art deco flats. Trendy Potts Point cafes line the east end of the street, and Fratelli Paradiso in particular is simply magnificent for breakfast. The Lotus bar is a splendid slinky place for frolicking with fashionable boys and girls. If you can afford it, this would have to be one of the best streets in inner Sydney.

A friend of mine lives in a beautiful art deco block of apartments here. He has a stunning view of the city and lots of cool shops and restaurants nearby. It's can be crazy and noisy but it is also lots of fun.

Apart from the junkies, backpackers and general weirdness of Kings Cross there are little delights to discover in this area. Roslyn St has cute tiny antique shops and the excellent Piccolo cafe. You'd want to be comfortable with the craziness on the streets to live here, but it could also be charming.

very cute little street with mostly terrace houses surrounded by social options - great food on Bulwer St, Perth's Chinatown around the corner on William St, pubs nearby on Brisbane St, walk into the CBD for work, very convenient for everything

I love visiting here, preferably staying at the amazing Medua Hotel, or the Kirketon, having a drink at the Darlo bar, having breakfast at Le Petit Creme. I can't imagine living here because it could be rather crazy and the millionaires mingle with junkies and party kids on the streets late at night, but it is one of the best streets in Sydney if you love be a social butterfly.

I've visited Surry Hills a lot and stayed at various hotels, and eaten at many places along Crown St. I always think of the song 'Crown St' by Australian folk/pop duo Women in Docs - http://www.womenindocs.com/. There's great quirky shops too will many hours worth of happy wandering on this street.

I spent an enormous amount of time on this street as a uni student - eating at Mothers and many other places, doing my grocery shopping, drinking at the pub, visiting friends living in flats on this street, having a great time!

I used to live in a gorgeous 1910 era flat now sadly demolished to make way for ugly modern apartments. The street is directly behind UWA colleges and close to the university, the river, the shops and cafes on Hampden Rd. Great for walking over to Somerwille and seeing movies in the summer in the outdoor film festival. Can be noisy due to the nearby teaching hospital with ambulances audible 24 hours a day and lots of parking congestion due to uni students but it's a vibrant place to live. Public transport is quite good with a choice of buses into the city.

The side east of Brunswick St is quietish with older homes and lots of trees. The side west of Brunswick St is warehouses and the leftovers of industrial Fitzroy - there are some new apartments but also some businesses and it looks less attractive. Nonetheless very close to all that Fitzroy offers.

This is a busy traffic street with lost of bars, restaurants and other businesses. There's a gym and access out of Fitzroy to Collingwood and Carlton. The Commoner is a fabulous restaurant on Johnston St and some of the best fashionable furniture shops are also here.

I used to visit friends who lived on this street, uni students and assorted musos and artists who had an enormous share house. There's not enough parking as it's a narrow old st but it does feel alive, and the Scotchmer st cafes and the Empress and Park hotels are nearby. The food at the Empres is great and it's easy to live around here.

Rae St is quite a long st for North Fitzroy, so it depends where you are on it. The south end is near the beautiful Edinburgh gardens, the funky cafes on Scotchmer st and Piedimonte's supermarket. There's 2 storey terraces and more modest houses on Rae st, so despite being inner city it could support larger families.

I lived here for a couple of years in the lovely leafy east end cul de sac of Holden St. It's really quiet around here (though you can hear the train coming over the nearby bridge over Merry Creek) but also lots of fun. There's the shops and fantastic Burmese takeaway place around the corner on St George's Rd, cycle paths everywhere, pubs not too far away and parks and open space for kids to play in. There's something for everyone here. The public transport is excellent with the trams on Nicholson St and St George's Rd, the bus along Holden St and the train (Rushall station) is a 5 minute walk away. You can even walk over the bridge to Northcote to go to the Westgarth cinema and all the cool cafes around it. There can be a few strange people around from the public housing on the street but they are mostly harmless.

This street joins Wattle Tree Rd and High St (both of which have trams) so the public transport is really good. There's shops nearby on High St including a bottle shop, florist and a really good cafe. The street is wide and quiet with some impressive houses, old and new, and only a few flats. It would be a comfortable and convenient place to live with your family, but maybe a bit quiet for young singles.

I lived here for a few weeks looking after a travelling friend's flat. It's a quiet little cul de sac close to the Tennyson St shops in Elwood. Busy Brighton Rd / Nepean Hwy is nearby but the traffic is not loud. There's a tram on that street that can take you to St Kilda junction and on to St Kilda, the city or elsewhere.

I used to spend a lot of time on this street. There are houses as well as gorgeous art deco flats. It's very close to some small shops including a fab bakery cafe on Tennyson St and it's also close to the beach. It's quiet and peaceful with sea breezes and lots of trees.

The south end of Chapel St in Windsor is a much more laidback and relaxed place than the party barbie north end in Prahran. There's the very cool Astor cinema to visit, some groovy secondhand furniture shops to browse through and some excellent places to eat, including the new Mama Ganoush - see http://www.mamaganoush.com/. Parking can be tricky and it would not be the quietest place to live but I think you could have a lot of fun living there!

I lived on this street as a child and remember it as a magical place where I could run over the street to the park and play cricket, and go to the beach (also within walking distance) every day. It's a cute quiet little street with the train station close by for easy access to the city.

I lived on Oxford St for 4 years in a beautiful WW1 returned serviceman's cottage with 12ft ceilings, jarrah floorboards and art deco leadlight windows. Once the shops and cafe finish on the street it becomes a normal suburb. The traffic is not a problem and there is a real community feel where people hang over their fences and talk to their neighbours. I often walked 500m down the road to the Luna cinema to see whatever was on. A very cool and very relaxed place to live!

I've been living in a flat on the 2nd floor of a building in Rose St for 2 years. It can be noisy sometimes but most of the time it is surprisingly peaceful. There is a delicious breeze if you're above street level and the smell from the bagel bakery next door is delicious. Everything you can possibly want is just around the corner, from shops to the 112 tram. It's a brilliant place to live if you're a busy sociable person.
