Horner St
"off-beat gay street WEHO!"
From the "best burger in town" to BossaNova Brazillian for their overly generous serving sizes, S Robertson Blvd and Wilshire runs southwards towards the hollywood hotspots like Urth Cafe, The Ivy Restaurant, Kitson and many more. Do grab a sunday brunch at The Abbey with their large as can be selection of fresh fruit martinis and mojitos to truly experience what LA is about.
oh and p.s., truckstop at Here is held every thursday night where all the most attractive grrls come out to play

Mott St
"nolita to chinatown"
this is the main street of two of the most prominent neighborhoods in new york city. Houston st marks the start of the nolita area (north of little italy) where pockets of independent retailers and restaurant/cafe types are located... walk further down south and you will hit Chinatown... recognized by the swarms of Chinese people hawking their fresh and dried food produce at some of the lowest prices within Manhattan.

Wall St
"A little depressing"
Barricades abound this area ever since the terrorist attacks of Sept 11 and since then, much of the life that existed before those events have migrated. Currently, wall st is far from being the financial district it once was... it is more residential if anything but a new budding one if anything... food delivery and grocers are not as abundant as other areas of new york but thank God there is fresh direct!

"Battery Park City"
The financial district gets the coldest in the winter because it is by the water and the multiple skyscraper buildings in that region create pockets of wind tunnels. In the summer, however, battery park is beautiful and it runs all the way through the west side of new york on the hudson. taxes are significantly higher thanks to up-keeping battery park and higher security but when you live here, you really are paying for those perks anyway. oh and the views can be phenomenal!

Midtown
"Times Square is any New Yorker's..."
Any true new yorker will squirm at the slightest mention of times square.
...crawling with overzealous tourists that stop at the most uncalled-for moments when you need to be somewhere...
...bad overpriced fast food... red lobster, tgif, and any other restaurateur must not be serious about good food if they're opened in times square... olive garden might be your best option but did i mention overpriced food?
really.. what's there to like about new york??
...this is really not what new york is about but what the tourist want new york to be about... i really really dislike times sq

St Marks Pl
"Japanese populated food district"
dumpling man, taisho, udon west... besides the mass of japanese/asian retailers on this street, there's also a number of piercing tattoo proprietors open till late into the night. there's a japanese supermarket on st marks, closer to the 2nd ave corner that's accessible through a stairs that lead to the basement level or another one called sunshine on the 9th and 3rd ave corner that's a lot larger.

"West Village, South of Meatpacking"
I loved living in the west village except transport can be a pain with the closest subway lines (blue A/C/E) being more than a block away. You may have to resort to MTA's buses which seem to run quite frequently... except no one (I know really) understand how those work. It is a chic-er version of lower manhattan with less grunge and more poise than the east village. Loubotin is on the street and so is a mass of high-end retailers around the corner. Reception in this area is horrible. Expect close to no phone reception from T-mobile especially and possible phone reception from AT&T.. but this is the case through the west village...

West 27 St
"The left-overs from the Big Club Era"
What use to house some of the most notorious clubs such as Bungalow8, Marquee, Cain, Pink Elephant, Guesthouse etc. has turned into a tourist trap filled with the B&T crowd. Exclusivity is feigned and attitudes are beyond obnoxious. I heard they want to convert this into a more residential area except Amy Sacco (B8) and her crew refuse to accept the demise of the area.

"The epicenter of what defines new york"
5th Avenue splits Manhattan into halves and runs all the way through most of the city. The real life is anywhere from around Flatiron in the low 20s streets to Central Park where you get the posher restaurants and retail options. I would also avoid the Times Square area if you truly want to know what Manhattan's about.

"Great street to get from the west side highway back on towards the East side"
This street houses the back entrance to my apartment where deliveries are made on the very versatile sidewalk with a fire hydrant. There is a parking garage where Enterprise is located. The street is two-way but that ends at the enterprise garage where it turns into a one way street where u hit battery place. There's zeytuna's on the corner of battery and morris and a little deli on the two-way part of morris.
