"Why I Chose College Glen over North Natomas"

My wife and I moved to Natomas Park almost a year ago. While North Natomas is certainly the place to move if you want the new house with the high ceilings and small yard, it's also pretty damned isolated--and lots of residents like that because minimal transportation lines mean lower crime rates and way less homeless folks trudging up and down the streets. My wife and I chose to buy a house in College Glen because we loved having immediate access to the American River--why own a pool when an extremely swimmable river is right down the street? We also love our close access to the American River Bike Trail--in Natomas, I would have to bike ten miles down the levee road just to reach the trail--yes, it was sweet when I wanted that 80 mile workout, but in the high summer months, biking that levee road was a killer! We also love the fact that we are just down the road from the metro, which means we don't have to drive into Sac--we can just take the train and if you're wondering about the train, I commute daily on it (of course, from Natomas I had to bike ten miles just to get to the train). We also love the huge dog park and all of the dirt trails off of the bike trail. I'm also a sucker for established landscapes and the La Riviera section has a park-like feel and some spots are almost zen in their aesthetic. You can also find houses with vaulted ceilings and sunken living rooms if you're into the retro thing (which we are!). For me and my wife, College Glen is the place to live.
Pros
  • Park-like setting
