"Friendly neighborhood with restaurants, cafes, basic amenities, parks/hiking and charming tree lined streets"

I moved to Glenview in 2011 and its been great and getting better and better from day 1! The shopping area on Park Blvd is just the right sized with all the necessary basics - dry cleaner, shoe repair, post service, nail salon, fitness studio, restaurants that span price range and a variety of international cuisines. Transportation to SF is excellent with 2 casual carpool stops on Park Blvd and an express bus and its a quick 7-10 min drive to Fruitvale BART. Although there are some car-house break-ins they are fairly infrequent and an alarm is a good deterrent. As a single woman I feel very safe walking the streets at 10pm at night (returning after a dinner out on Park Blvd). It is a great neighborhood to get a walk that is a mix of 'urban/nature' walking in if you combine walking bungalow-tree lined streets over to Dimond Park. If you want real hiking Redwood Regional is 10 minutes up the hill with acres/miles of redwood forest hikes. The BEST thing about Glenview is the PEOPLE - my neighbors are all lovely people - we have block parties, help each other out with bins and pets when on vacation, do the proverbial 'borrow a cup of sugar' and all in all it feels great to have a community family. This extends to the merchants on Park Blvd -the owners at Savemore will order whatever you need and if you are a regular and forget your wallet, they got you til next time. The couple who runs the cafe is equally lovely. Glenview is not just a neighborhood, it is a COMMUNITY.
