"Not the safest place but friendly"

I lived on Ocean Avenue by Prospect Park in Brooklyn Ny when I was young, and I must say I remember a lot of crime happening there. On the other hand, I also rememebr this great sense of community.

I have lived in a lot of places and was used to moving around a lot, but Ocean Avenue was one of those places where despite the crime rate, many people called home until the day they died. We would walk to the corner store to get candya nd the place next door to order Chinese food, and after about the thirs time being there, the employees usually already knew what we wanted. There was also a guy alex who owned a donut shop nearby and he used to pinch my cheeks I remember, as if he was my uncle saying hi, and as I grew older I realized, I didnt even really know that man.

You also had prospect park across the street, where they had a lake where we would go to feed the ducks after school and take our mind off the hustle and bustle in the street.

"Very historic place to visit"

East 42nd street, particularly Grand Central Station, is a must see for all tourist and New Yorkers alike. If you have ever takent he train there you may notice how easy it is to get lost underground. while transferring from one train to the next, you get to see restaurants, shoe shinign places, as well as barber shops. You get to see it, that is, if you can avoid being pushed by the busy New Yorkers who literally run from one train to the next. We are always taught that time is of the essence and not to waste it looking around, but you just can't help it when you are at grand central. From here you can catch trains and busses to queens as well as to New Jersey via the PATH trains and even Delaware via Amtrack. Do not get overwhelmed if you do end up there.

The trick with 42nd street is to be sharp and on your toes. It is always crowded there and many of the people there are too busy to stop and appreciate the scenery, and get very upset if you stand in their way. However, there really is a lot to see there and as long as you are aware of your surroundings, you will be fine.

"Very high class living"

I used to babysit two girls on East end Avenue a few years ago and I was amazed at the condo they lived in. It was a 3 bedroom, condo where each of the 3 rooms had their own bathroom. though the space was not huge, it was very classy. The master bedroom had the bathroom with the jacuzzi, and the other room had its own bathroom inside the room.

Even as you went outside you were amazed at the view of central park, which was right across the street, since this was the street that separated the east and the west side. The residents here are very friendly, which has been a surprise to me, growing up in a New York where most people just stick to themselves and do not say hi to you unless they know you.

East end avenue became my dream place to love in if I had stayed in the city. It is walking distance from the major train stations yet far enough back where you had a view of the vast green that makes up central park.

"Great Strip of Clubs for the college student"

On Nesconset Highway, also known as route 347, you can find a lot of night clubs. They may not be as classy as the ones in Manhattan, but definatley worth it for hte college students budget. Many fraternities and sororities thrwo parties at these clubs and rent out the whole place fo the night, so you are always surrounded with familiar people. There are many bars there as well, and for the most part it's also college students that are there, so especially for the ladies, you don't hav eto feel scared that an old creep will start hitting on you.

This street is also great to drive around during the day too. they have SmithHaven Mall where you can find discount clothing and shoes, as well as Wal Mart where you can get your dorm room essentials. No matter where on Nesconset highway you drive, you will find what you are looking for, day and night.

"Very crowded but great bargains"

Canal strreet is always the place I went to for electronics. They have everythign you need there at prices you thought were impossible to find. When I needed a scientific then a graphic calculator and was told tit would cost about 200 dollars, my mother took me straight to canal street, where we looked around at a few stores and bargained until we found a brand new one for just 80 dollars. Of course they love when you pay with cash.

On canal street, right off the Williamsburg Bridge, you can find very cheap school uniforms as well.

The disadvantage of shopping here would be that it is very crowded and looks unorganized. You must be tough and be ready to hav eot push through a crowd. While some prefer to do their shopping in a mall where they knwo where everything is and know they will find parking, I love the excitement of going somewhere different and having storied to tell and beign able to brag about how much less I paid for the same item as the classmate next to me.

"Good place to just relax and walk around"

East 86th street is a good place to stop and walk around if you are ever bored and don't want to get caught int he commotion of Times Square. Here you can find great fast food that is much healthier than a McDonalds or Burger King. I am talking about places that sell milkshakes and pretzels as well as donuts.

You can walk around this street and find CD and book stores galore. Many people walk into these stores and relax inside while browsing through the thousands of titles. though it is in the city, it's acutally a good place to relax or kill some time. You also don't need to have a car here, with the abundance of taxis as well as nearby train stations and busses.

Now rent is very expensive here, but that can be expected. After all, we are talking about New York City, but everything is very close by and the supermarket there even delivers your groceries to you. You can do all your food shopping online and have it at your door in a few hours. They accomodate the busy new Yorker very well here.

"Perfect for the college student"

Lower sheep pasture road is a great street to live in temporarily as a student. Many college students find that living in the dormitories can and has become quite expensive. Even with student loans, it becomes crazy whn you are required to be on a meal plan and pay a lot of activity fees. That is why some opt tot move out and find off campus housing. Only a couple of miles away from both Suffolk community college and Stony Brook University, Lower sheep parture road is the perfect place to live when all you are looking for is a quiet place to sleep and study.

There is not much shopping to do on this street, and not much of a nightlife either, but both these commodities are found just a few miles away, which is a good thing for those looking for a remote place free of distractions, as long as you have a car, since ther isn't much within walking distance. Rent is very affordable there even for a student who only works part itme.

"Nice and quiet environment"

Fairbury avenue in Bellerose Ny is a very quiet street yet it has all the essentials for raising children. There is a small park on that street where children can go on the swings ans slides as well as a small sprinkler. The park also provides handball and basketball courts and use of the facility is free.

There are also a few very good schools nearby. Not too many cars drive up and down the street, and many times you see the neighbors outside. In fact, they get together once a year and close downt he block to have a block party and everyone is welcome. They have food and dancing all night.

Feirbury Avenue is honetly the perfect place to raise children. you can let your kids go outside and play and not have to worry about anything happening ot them. There is a great sense of community withing the neighbors, and everyone there looks out for each other.

"Everything you need at great low prices!"

Jamaica avenue in Queens, NY is my shopping heaven. They definately do not have the pricey designer bags you can find in the city. In fact, most of the items are just imitations. They are made of the same exact materials but because they do not carry names like Gucci and Coach, they are sold for about 75% less than what you would find elsewhere.

This street is like heaven for the West Indian or Carribean, because while you walk around you can find beef patties and sweets that are imported straight fromt he carribean. You can find sneakers at a steal since there is so much competition. There are stores right next to each other that sell the same items, and most of them have employees standing outside that try to lure you in and offer you the best price.

There is also the coliseum, the only place I know where they will make you a gold chaing with your name on it, doubel plated, while you wait. Again there is so much competition with the lower level dedicated to Jewelry and tattoos only, that you are guaranteed to get a steal.

If you are looking for thrift shopping and looking to spend as little money as possible to get as many article of clothing and jewelry as well as music CDs for a mere 5 dollars, Jamaica Ave is the place to be.

"Bargain Hunter's Heaven"

82nd Street in Jackson Heights NY is great because you don't need a car to get around at all. With the rising gas prices, this serves as a relief considering there are at least 3 different buses that run by there. They will take you to the local train station, the airport, or even into the city, for a flat rate currently of only $2.00

On 82nd street you will find everything from sneaker and clothing stores to pharmacies and fast food restaurants, all in the same block, as well as medical offices and delis. You can literally get all your essentials for back to school, travel, or just hang our with friends at the local movie theater. It's a perfect street for the busy, young student because you don't have to drive around town to find everything you need. Of course with the train being so close by it is a little noisy and crowded, but its like living in the city without all the expenses. You can literally walk down the block and find a new cell phone and a pair of sneakers and then get a tattoo and catch a movie without ever setting foot in a car. Most of the independently owned businesses there are open to bargaining as well, so if you are a good negotiator, you can be guaranteed to pay less than retail price for anything you buy.

It is also vey cultural. There are a lot of South Americans on 82nd street, and they are happy to share their food and other products such as clothing and flags. This street has many items that are imported straight from the native countries of colombiaa, Mexico, Brazil, and many more, so if you are from South America and long for your home cooking, or if you are not but are open to trying new things and become more well rounded, this is the perfect place to be.
