"Its cool"

Yeah, Glassell is cool. I live nearby in Highland Park, so I pass through it periodically. Its much quieter than Eaglerock and Highland Park, so it would be a great place if you want to be close to the action yet not right in the middle of it. Really, Glassell Park or Cypress Park would be about the same. They are close to everything, yet dont have a ton of BIG things themselves.
Pros
  • Close to Everything
  • Good Homes of Various Kinds
  • Good Schools
Cons
  • Little Nightlife
  • Some Rough Spots

"The New Center of Los Angeles"

Ive lived here for 5 years now. Recently its really been on the upswing. Yes, it used to be fairly sketchy (sometimes it still is), but now it seems to be the center of the universe for hipsters and artists. For those who live in LA, Im not saying anything you dont already know. For out-of -towners, think Echo Park/Silverlake with a grittier vibe and cheaper rents (for now!).

If you like even more grittiness and even cheaper rents, Cypress Park is just down the street and has an awesome vibe. If you like higher rents and more chain stores, Eagle Rock is just up the road.

Tons of options!....so yeah, Im a fan of the area...at the same time, I wonder if its becoming too "hip".
Pros
  • Young People
  • Tons of stuff to do
  • close to public transit and parks
Cons
  • Kinda far from the ocean
  • A little sketchy at times
