"not the worst street in Oakland"

Makin Rd is in an area of Oakland that doesn't have the best reputation, but it isn't the worst part of town either. Crime can be a problem at night, but during the day it seems ok, just very quiet and almost deserted. Homes are ok, small, older, and bare bones but usually well kept.

"So-so street near park"

Koford Road is a little more desirable than many streets in the surrounding area. There are some cute houses, still smaller and inexpensive, but well kept, but many in some states of disrepair and neglect also. This street is close to the park, which is ok during the day but I have heard to avoid at night.

"not so great street near airport"

Empire Road has many small older homes that are a mixture of very plain and unkempt homes, with a lot of rental folks coming and going, and similar homes that are well-kept and landscaped inhabited by elderly holdouts in the neighborhood. This area is definitely going downhill and increasing in crime, plus gets noise from airplane takeoffs at the nearby airport. Do not recommend.

"lots of freeway noise"

Coral Rd in particular gets a lot of traffic noise, although the neighborhood and street itself is low traffic, it unfortunately runs parallel to the 880, Nimitz Frwy. Add this to noise from the airport and you have a street with lots of noise pollution. This is not a desirable street on which to live in any case.

"loud, not a great neighborhood"

Fitzpatrick Rd is in a neighborhood that I would not recommend living in. Homes are older, not in great repair, and very small and plain. The area has a reputation for being high crime and unsafe, especially at night. It also gets a lot of noise from the nearby freeway and airport.

"plain and desolate neighborhood"

Sextus Rd is a short street in a very plain neighborhood near the airport. I have heard that the area is somewhat unsafe at night, but to me it seems more desolate and plain. Just small, nondescript houses affordable for low income families. It is quite noisy due to the airport.

"not a great neighborhood"

For some reason Cairo Rd does not seem quite as bad as many other streets in this area. Homeowners on this street seem to take a little more care with their homes and put out more effort as far as landscaping and other small touches that keep homes looking nicer. I never felt this area was really dangerous, just low income and not a very desirable place to live.

"noisy and unsafe area"

Gannon Road is a noisy, unsafe, and undesirable area of Oakland. You get lots of noise from incoming and outgoing aircraft at the airport all times of day and night, and also lots of noise from the nearby 880 and 98th Ave. A friend of mine has a relative down here and says not to go to this area at night. I do avoid it at night, and during the day it just seems deserted and depressing.

"exotic name for not so exotic street"

It cracks me up that several streets in this area have exotic middle eastern names such as Tunis and Cairo. This area is anything but exotic, it is quite barren and desolate. Many homes are not inhabited right now. The rest are a weird mix of shady seeming people and older people who are holdouts from when this wasn't such a bad area, or who can't afford to move.

"Not a desirable neighborhood"

Wistar Rd is in a small neighborhood near the Oakland Airport. Besides the obvious problems of lots of air traffic noise, this is not a desirable area. I have heard it is not safe as far as robberies and such, but I never felt unsafe here. Then again, i have never been here at night. I would not choose to live here unless i had to by some circumstance. It isn't the worst street in Oakland, though.
