Hercules

I lived on this street for over 15 years. There are brick homes, and is relatively quiet, save the occassional boom-beat car or truck passing by. Most neighbors take care of their lawns. The population is turning more into a rental neighborhood than an owner neighborhood. No major shopping nearby. A closed down school 2 blocks away offers a basketball court, a baseball diamond, and a large field.

This street can be a dangerous place at night - but there are those who have lived there for more than 20 years. There is a stepped-up police presence, due to the many newly constructed homes that are available at very reasonable prices. Might be family-friendly during the day, but try not to take twilight strolls. Many neighbors don't care for their properties, and there are abandoned houses. The new construction is a step in the right direction.

West Chicago is very curious. Heading west from Grand River/I-96, it ranges from an odd mix of dilapidated industrial buildings and gritty neighborhoods. Heading further west past Oakman and Wyoming, is an area that smacks of a former neighborhood center for shopping. Even further west for a half mile past Schaefer, more industrial areas and residential streets. Still heading west, the street becomes more of a secondary artery through neighborhoods - and remains so up to Rouge Park. West Chicago ends within this park at Outer Drive.

This is a fairly mundane route through a west side neighborhood. Not much happening here, but interesting nonetheless.
