"Is this really an avenue?"

Odd street. Not many businesses mostly residential parts that are very sketchy and the traffic is awful Plus the awkward split with Irolo around olympic. some highlights are st Sophia cathedral and Papachristos Tavern also some businesses on the corner of normandie and wilshire. In addition, there is no easy parking. Overall, a street to avoid.

"If you visit UCLA avoid this street"

This is the main entrance to UCLA. The problem is that this is the entrance ot the medical plaza and the UCLA med center. So if you want ot get in time to your appt or work pick the other university streets. Parking kiosks are everywhere at the university entrances. The traffic is awful, all the buses enter there and the university has decided to put 4 traffic lights in this small stretch. Bad bad...

"The place to go in downtown."

LA Live on the one side and staples on the other. plenty of restaurants the great plaza at the nokia center this is the place to hang out and visit in downtown. not quite times square. Great place for children and families very safe but can get very noisy during laker games. however parking is a hassle and very expensive and there is no public transport reliable to take you there so be prepared to shell out at least 15 dollars in parking....

"South Park district center"

This is the hub of major construction in downtown. High rise apts and new stores coming as people move in. It's great place to visit and live. Quite safe however you do not go south of pico. Stay north. The section between 11th and olympic is very run down which is very odd due to the gentrification in the area.

"Avoid this street..."

Mostly residential and very sketchy... Plus it is not a shortcut for any traffic. There some cool korean BBQ restaurants near Vermont Ave. However, safetywise the street is not great. If I were to visit park your car in lots not on the street and during the day. Very odd street...

"Long way to go..."

Yes there are plenty of lofts and some shops plus they have the gallery nite every month but this is Skid Row still. I would not walk around alone here unless I have someone with me or a loud dog. The more south you go it gets more sketchy. The northern part close to 2nd Street is much better. Visit during daylight...

"Quiet artist colony street."

This is the heart of the Artists' district. Very cool street with nice restaurants and stores. The colorful graffiti in many buildings add some color to an open space empty area. It is very quiet eerie but I never felt unsafe going there. This area has great potential. Great place for singles and young couples. Plus Little Tokyo is nearby by and cheap shopping is very close at the Fashion District.

"Quiet residential area."

This is the borders of Beverly Hills and LA. Close to the Beverly center this area is a collection of condos on wither side. Very nice tree lined streets and the street is an awesome shortcut to by pass traffic in Santa Monica or Wilshire Blvd. At the west end you arrive at Beverly Hills and Little Santa Monica Blvd that leads you into Rodeo Dr.

"An evolving architectural gem."

While this part of 1st street is devoid of any restaurants it is the center of LA government. City Hall, the courts, the brand new LAPD headquarters and the truly awesome Caltrans Building. Plus the LA Times. It is a great place to visit on the weekend and take some very nice pictures of these great architectural gems. Easy to access via the Metro Red line. Hopefully the plans to create a massive park uniting the Disney hall with city hall will turn this area to a place to hang out. And if you get hungry Little Tokyo is a stone's throw. The sushi is great and is a very cool community.
