"Area for first time home buyers for younger families"

La Cresta / Altavista is sort of like two neighborhoods converged into one. When you are giving directions to the area you say the La Cresta / Altavista area. Most people will not what you are talking about. Located well within the heart of Bakersfield this neighborhood is mainly residential with a few stores like the 98 cent store and a large Baptist church which is filled with people on Sunday mornings. The houses could be described as on the lower middle class side. Most of them are older one floor ranch style. There are lot’s of children in the area, so this is more of a family community. A lot of the parent’s are younger and this is an area where many people are buying their first homes to start families. There is also a large older crowd from when the houses were first constructed. For the most part the area is relatively quiet with noises peaking around the morning and afternoon commute.
