You can certainly try. The big newspaper (and the only one where you might be able to make enough to live on) is The Poughkeepsie Journal, which is part of Gannett.
There are many radio stations in Poughkeepsie, you'd just need to contact them. They range from Classical (WMHT-FM) to Indie College (WRNQ-FM) to Classic Rock (WPDH-FM) to Lite/Soft Rock (WRNQ-FM). The one with the biggest presence is KISS-FM (WPCF), which is your basic today's-hit-music station with lots of local announcements and interviews with residents.
