Very safe. Crossed paths with an 80-ish woman with a walker on the sidewalk as I left the bodega at 5th and Garfield the other day at 10 pm. Maybe it's a little raucous if you're north on 5th around Bergen when the fans are emptying out of Barclay Center after a hockey game. But they're just buzzed and looking for barbecue.

I live on 5th Ave. It would be my pleasure to give a walking tour should anyone new to the area like additional insight on neighborhood amenities.

4th and 5th Avenues are perfectly safe, but only if you are within the borders of Park Slope (west of Flatbush Avenue and north of the Prospect Expressway), as nearby Sunset Park and Prospect Heights are not very safe areas!
