The Shape and Texture of Buildings

If you are into art, you may notice something rather interesting about many of the buildings in NYC. Buildings like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building were done by means of Art Deco. Art Deco was a very popular international art design back in 1925 until the 1940s. This type of design affected the architecture, interior design, and shape of many buildings that were constructured between 1925 and the 1940's.

Art Deco was chosen for its elegance, glamor, functionality, and modernism. Artists looked at it as a combination of Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. For a while Art Deco lost touch with people until the 1980s.

Sorry, but this isn't all that informative. You don't give a sense of what that Art Deco really is and how it distinctly shapes the city, if that was at all your intention. People write whole books about the unique combination of architectures and building textures that combine to make up the city as we experience it in the everyday. I'd prefer a posting that goes beyond the generalities, either to some expert information or some specific point of view you have to bring to the topic!

Maybe you don't but there are people who are artists and do care. I know many people who come to the city every so often and compliment about the texture and layout of the buildings. It may not be informative to you but it may be to others.

I'm not saying I'm not interested in art deco or in the city's architecture. I'm saying I can read Wikipedia too, so say something original about it!

I hate to tell you this, but Wikipedia seems to cover everything already. I figure there may be people visiting here for the first time who did not know about the art deco in the city, or know anything about it at all. Now that I posted about it, they can research it further to learn more about it.

Bunch of cliches aren't helpful to anybody and I don't think the spirit of being a local expert includes clogging up the forums with them. If I'm wrong about this, I'll gladly shut up. Others are welcome to comment.

I told a couple of people about my comment and they asked for more info. So my comment does matter to some people.
