I haven't seen too many sidewalk repairs in the city lately, except around construction sites. Has anyone seen any places where actual sidewalks were being ripped up and replaced?

I experienced the joy of being woken up to the sound of a jackhammer ripping out the sidewalk in front of my building; the workers also ripped up half of the street. I have no idea what they were doing, but when they were finished they filled the hole they made and repaved the street with some sort of instant asphalt. I expected that stuff to sink and gather water whenever it rained, but it's held up surprisingly well. The city came back at a later date and properly restored the sidewalk they'd ripped out so that it looks brand new, so you see where their priorities lie.
