Bronx School Will Not Close As Anticipated
At one point the DOE was considering closing the Alfred E. Smith Career and Technical High School, located in the Bronx. However, that has changed. The school will stay open, which means the automotive technology program that many thought was doomed will stay alive.
Alfred E. Smith was one of 20 schools to be closed or phased out due to low graduation rates and poor performance. But thanks to a lot of feedback from the community the DOE has decided to let it stay open for now.
A joint public hearing will be held to discuss the future of this school next month.
