The Near South Side is very good overall for public transportation. You can move around a fair bit without needing a car. A couple of trains pass through here on the way to the Loop, and you can always find more buses and cabs that you'll need.

Near South Side has just about every kind of public transportation. You'll have access to trains (Orange Line, Green Line, Red Line) and plenty of buses.
