How busy (noisy) is it near the Queens/Midtown tunnel?

I'm thinking of renting an apartment on 39th St., near the Queens/Midtown tunnel -- but I am worried it will be crazy noisy, especially during the morning/evening rush hours. Does the tunnel entrance/exit create noise problems, and if so, which intersections/streets should I avoid (as in, not rent an apartment there)?

Most of NYC is noisy LRJ - but you should also take into consideration the actual apartment you will be moving into. Is it in a building(what floor)? Is the building new (double glazed windows)? Will the bedroom be adjacent to the street? I live on Broadway in NoHo and surprisingly it's quiet because I am 7 floors up, in a newly renovated building. On the street its crazy, but in my apartment it's pretty quiet.
