Which is safer and nicer to live, Maple or Winthrop?

I have a choice of moving to either Maple or Winthrop, can someone tell me which street is nicer and safer to live? it will be to the west of Nostrand. BTW, I don't see that many rentals available in this area, is there a reason why? Which neighborhood is safer, Lefferts Garden or Bed-Sty ?
