Will the New York Times survive Murdoch's onslaught?

Most New Yorkers swear by the New York Times which is often regarded as the gold standard in journalism. The Times on Sunday with its review of the Arts is appreciated not only by New York City residents but also enjoys a following outside the city. Now the NYT which has been struggling in recent years has become a target for Rupert Murdoch who owns the Wall Street Journal and is now pumping in gazillions of dollars into the Journal in an effort to destroy the NYT.. Will he succeed or is loyalty to the Times greater than this? I for one love the reporting in the NYT and really cant seem into get in to the WSJ...you?

@Uptowngirl: I do not read the WSJ. It is mainly for investors and those involved in Wall Street. But I do like to read the NYT when I have the time. They seem to cover quite a bit.

@uptowngirl As far as I know, the NYT was bought by that Mexican billionaire, who doesn't give two cents if the paper isn't profitable any more. He said that he just likes the paper and wants it to continue on, and he certainly doesn't need the money. So I'm not really worried about the Times surviving. Seems like Murdoch is just bored...

@Uraniumfish ah-ha I had totally forgotten about the Carlos Slim angle.. so maybe the NYT will just brush aside Murdoch's challenge ....
