Moving to New York; looking for hip new neighborhood

I'm relocating from houston in the new year. I live in montrose down here which is the gay friendly, artsy neighborhood and I'm looking to move somewhere similar. Somewhere artsy, hip, with lots of places to eat and local bars. I'm a young twenty something so I prefer somewhere with singles and young couples. Would also like to know whats the average rent in said neighborhoods
