Eviction notices at luxury building

To continue my avid NYC real-estate watch: Passing by 1 Hanson Place today, I noticed that there were a couple of a eviction notices pasted to the outside window of the place. Which I found striking, because you don't think of the residents of luxury buildings getting evicted for not paying their rent. The one friend I know who lives there is leaving this summer because he never got the job in finance he thought he was going to get and can't afford the rent any more.

@Uraniumfish my brother lives there but he bought his apartment two years ago ...I also think they were trying hard to rent out their lobby label space to get regular commercial rent and that didn't materialize either.

The top floors aren't finished, and it doesn't look like anyone's working on them any more. They're basically abandoned construction sites. Does your brother run into many other residents, or is it deserted?

If you're going to be a squatter, why not do it in style? Though I doubt that these poor luxury renters ever intended to do such a thing....

Luxury apartment buildings always seem so empty, and yet people keep building them everywhere! A new building just went up across the street from the YMCA in Bed-Stuy. If I were in the market for a lux apt, I think I would pick a better neighborhood.

@Urainiumfish I checked with my brother who logged onto the buildings google group to find out what's going on since he's hardly ever home thanks to his brutal hours as a corporate lawyer.Anyway apparently the developer had offered some units for rent last year during the recession when sales were slow. The developer apparently raised the common charges recently and may have perhaps increased the rents of these apartments hence the notices though he was just speculating as there was no mention of these notices in the group which apparently is quite active and discusses everything.
One Hanson place is not a rental building as most of the units are for sale and he said that in fact some of the apartments which were listed in the group as on sale were currently shown as in contract so perhaps things are beginning to stir in the real estate market yet again..

Hmm, but if there were big trouble behind the scenes, do you think that would be openly discussed by the people involved with the building? Anyway, whereas there were two notices last week, now there's three. In fact the notices may all have to do with one problem apartment/tenant, since I think people have to be given several notices before anyone acts.

@Uraniumfish the google group is for the residents of the building not the management and apparently the residents and pretty clued on and discuss everything anyway I have told my bro to inform me if he learns of anything more..
