Best neighborhood in Manhattan for a 30something single commuting from Grand Central to Stamford?

Happy to do a short subway ride for the right neighborhood.

Murray Hill. Nice area, close to Grand Central and not insanely expensive.

And there are great bars/restaurants along 2nd ave. I used to live in Murray Hill when I was in grad school...loved it!
