Should any parts of Little Village in Chicago be avoided more than others?

For the most part you don't need to worry about crime too much in Little Village. I wouldn't call it the safest neighborhood, but it's not really dangerous, and it's close enough to downtown for a solid police presence.

The northeast area of Little Village is a little less safe then the rest of the neighborhood. Overall the entire neighborhood is pretty safe.
