Bakeries and Sweets

Through my volunteer gig as a Chicago Greeter and courtesy of the folks at the Chicago Neighborhood Tourism Project, following is a list of bakeries and sweet shops located in Lincoln Park. Go ahead and indulge that sweet tooth in Lincoln Park! Each of these locations was visited and thoroughly researched by the folks involved in the Project. Sampling the fare was a requirement of the task. What an awesome job to have!

1. Austrian Bakery & Deli, 2523 N. Clark St., 773-244-9922, www.austrianbakery.com

“Certified by the Austrian consulate as an authentic Austrian bakery, there is no denying the superb quality and immaculate presentation of these pastries. Try out the Altwiener apple strudel or the Sacher chocolate cake. We promise you will not be disappointed.”
2. Fritz Pastry, 1408 W. Diversey Pkwy., 773-857-2989, www.fritzpastry.com

“The European-style Fritz Pastry is owned by a trio of restaurant mavens, including one of Time Out Chicago's 12 Most Important Chef's, Nathaniel Meads. Try one of the 100 french macaroon flavors that will debut it 2010.”
3. Molly's Cupcakes, 2536 N. Clark St., 773-883-7220, www.mollyscupcakes.com

“Molly's is one of Chicago's favorite bakeries, making everything homemade, from the cupcakes to the ice cream. You can enjoy a best selling "Ron Bennington" while sitting on the swings that double as seats at the counter. The sprinkle station is for all ages.”
4. Sweet Mandy B's, 1208 W. Webster Ave., 773-244-1174, No website!

“Created for the whole family, Sweet Mandy B's bright and cheerful shop provides all the classic treats you loved to make at home when growing up. Make sure to try out the cupcakes, bars, and cookies. Your taste buds will not be disappointed. Promise.”
5. Vanille Patisserie, 2229 N. Clyborn Ave., 773-868-4574, www.vanillepatisserie.com

“Vanille Patisserie is a French pastry shop that sells tarts, mouse cakes, chocolates, and other French desserts. Notably, they have about 16 different macaroon flavors. The pastry chef, Dimitri Fayard, won the World Pastry Championship in 2008.”
6. Vosges, 951 W. Armitage Ave., 773-296-9866, www.vosgeschocolate.com

“A Chicago chocolatier takes chocolate to the next level, offering more than 25 flavors of chocolate and three dozen different truffle flavors. Check out their truffle bar where you can taste Vosges' creations with a glass of champagne.”
