According to records, up until 2009 the most common industry was overwhelmingly construction.

The tourist industry is the strongest one I have seen there over the past 20 years. It used to be mining, there are lots of old silver mines in the mountains surrounding Lake City. But now, fishing, hiking, 4 wheeling, camping and hunting seem to dominate.
