Whats it like living in the Garment District neighborhood of New York City?

Well, it's central and close to Bryant Park but that's about where the fun ends. I find the Garment District to be dirty, crowded, loud and sketchy. And, the worst part is that the apartment prices aren't reasonable considering the neighborhood is such a bust. There's no neighborhood feel (i.e. cool local bars or restaurants) and there's nothing particularly cultural to do. There's a lot of tourists and a lot of homeless people. It's one of my least favorite neighborhoods in the city.
