Is Old Town the "historic" part of Fort Collins?
Or is there another part of the city with a lot of history?

Yes, Old town is where the original town started to build up around the military Fort. It is now the heart of Downtown Fort Collins. Many of the buildings from the !880's and 1890's are still there. There is even a walking tour of the historical buildings and a Haunted Fort Collins tour that tells some interesting historical facts. From the business district of old town heading west there are many original homes that date back to the early days of Fort Collins.

The homes do come on the market from time to time. It is a highly desirable area especially along Mountain Ave where the trolley runs during the summer months. The value of the homes vary. It depends on size and condition. Some of the smaller old cottages have been torn down and modern 2 story homes built on the small lot with very little yard left. The city has banned people from doing this any more from what I have heard. Many of the older homes that are in original condition are being sold to investors that are doing complete rehabs of the homes adding updates to the inside while keeping the original exterior design. There is everything from small cottages to large historic homes in the area. I have seem prices of $250,000 to over 1 million depending on the home location and condition. I would say the average for an updated preserved home is some where between $400,000 and $500,000. The convenience to Old Town is a major selling point as well.

Thanks for the information Rick. I would love to live along Mountain Avenue, and the prices you outlined are more reasonable that I expected
