High School in the Cory Merrill, Wash Park, Bonnie Brae, Belcaro and U. park neighborhoods

The public schools of the Cory Merrill, Wash Park, Bonnie Brae, Belcaro and University Park areas seem solid until High School. We are considering relocating to these areas and wonder where residents send their kids to High School? Unfortunately, South High isn't highly rated. Are there other options?

I have a friend that moved to that area a few years ago and ran into the same problem that you did--a lot of the Denver area high schools are sub-par, especially South High, which is particularly bad (I looked up its stats--atrocious). Anyway, my friend ended up sending them to private school--the Denver Academy, which he says was fantastic. His kids are at really good schools now (Brown, I think and UC Berkeley) so you should definitely check it out if it is in your price range.

I have a friend who lives in the area and her daughter goes to South High School. Although their 'stats' are bad, her daughter loves the school and finds the diversity among the students refreshing. She is a straight 'A' student, but I also don't know how hard the classes are. Both parents are highly successful, and place academics and sports high on the list. Point being, you may want to give it a try and if it doesn't seem a good fit, there are other options such as DirtyHarry suggested.
